Labor officially sworn in by Queensland Governor as KAP still tries to work out who they're supporting

LABOR leader Annastacia Palaszczuk has been formally sworn in as Premier of Queensland.

Jackie Trad and Curtis Pitt were sworn in as Deputy Premier and Treasurer respectively.

The ceremony was conducted by Governor Paul de Jersey at Government House on Saturday morning.

While Ms Palaszczuk kept a solemn look throughout much of the proceedings, a small smile broke out when the Governor officially declared her Premier.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk, I’m pleased to appoint you the Premier of Queensland and member of the Executive Council,” Mr De Jersey said.

All 19 cabinet portfolios of the Newman Government were handed over to the three MPs this morning.

That number will be reduced to 14 and spread among the new ministry when they are sworn in early next week.

The Governor accepted the resignation of the Newman Government Ministers this morning.

New Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said jobs would the main focus of the Palaszczuk Government.

“We made no secret of the fact jobs are the number one priority,” Ms Trad said following her official swearing in at Government House.

“Annastacia is passionate about jobs.

“She will be driving jobs growth in this state.”

Ms Trad said it was an honour to be officially declared Deputy Premier.

“I was very much aware this is a very special occasion,” she said.

“Not many Queenslanders get to experience this in their lives.”

She said it would be up to Ms Palaszczuk as to who would take over the full set of ministries.

Currently, Ms Palaszczuk holds the portfolios of the Minister for Education, Training and Employment, minister for Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Minister for Fisheries, Agriculture and Forestry, Minister for Science, Technology, Innovation and the Arts, Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business.

Ms Trad is Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Minister for Health, Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection, Minister for local Government, Community Resilience, Minister for National Parks, Sport and Recreation.

Mr Pitt is Treasurer, Minister For Trade, Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Minister for Housing and Public Works, Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Minister for Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander and Multicultural Affairs and Minister Assisting the Premier.
